The walk begins in the industrial part of Benevento, but the path improves after an old Roman bridge. From there it makes its way into the hills of the Appenines, the mountain spine of southern Italy.

This beautiful but long and rigorous walk moves through varied terrain, with mountain vistas and valleys, an old Roman bridge and a modern chapel. The day ends in the fascinating linguistic island of Celle.

An early but short climb out of Celle is rewarded by a spectacular view of Troia, a preview of the entire day's walk. Troia has a wonderful central plaza and park, and a remarkable cathedral.

This is another day when you can see your hilltop destination for most of the day. The path is a series of wonderful back roads, with an interesting stream crossing.

The path starts by the castle, then descends steeply to country tracks that cross freeways, grain fields, olive orchards, and flocks of sheep. It ends in the slightly worn city of San Severo.

This track begins with a brief walk through the urban zone, followed by rural paths, through olive groves, vineyards, a cattle ranch, and fields of grain, leading finally to the wooded paths to the monastery.

This strenous path is wooded, almost alpine in places, with pines at the top, and spectacular views of the surroundings, ending at the celebrated shrine of Padre Pio.
