This is a mostly rural day, on back roads. The path leads out of Nocelleto on rural roads and farm paths, occasionally joining slightly larger roads for short distances. The path joins the SS7 for the walk through the Arch of Emperor Frederick II of Swabia, over the Volturno River into Capua, a pleasant town that makes a great place to stop, thanks to the hospitality of the Franciscan Sisters. (To reach the convent, turn left after crossing the bridge. Follow the road along the river as it bends, first to the left, then to the right. After this right bend, the convent is about two blocks ahead on the left. The convent is next to the church of Santa Caterina)
The path leaves Capua by the train station for a short rural walk to Santa Maria Capua Vetere. Capua was built when the original site (now Santa Maria Capua Vetere) was destroyed by the Saracens in mid ninth century.
Santa Maria Capua Vetere offers several attractions: the Roman Amphitheater built during the rule of Augustus, one of the largest in existence, and the gladiator jail.
