Monte Sant' Angelo to Bari

25. Zapponeta to Margherita

Created by: Shawn Norris

There's a pleasant cafe on the south size of Zapponeta, just before you leave town on the highway. There are beautiful small farms on the way, with views of the sea in the distance, but this was not our favorite road. It is narrow and busy. The Torre Pietra makes a nice halfway point to stop for lunch. The entrance to Margherita is unpromising, with large ponds of pink water, mountains of salt, and industry. There's a small bike path at the entrance of town, after the entrance of the road from Cerignola, which makes for a pleasant break from road walking. We stayed at the Rinelli Hotel, which was enjoyable although it seemed to be lacking in staff. We enjoyed walking the beach and the boardwalk in Margherita. We found plenty of pizza margaritas in Margherita, but no margaritas for drinking.
