From the Gabbiano Hotel, it is easy to rejoin the Lunghomare and head south. The Via Azzurra leads around the corner, and then joins the tracks on the Viali dei Pini, a narrow pleasant tree lined path along a canal, with lots of poppies growing on the sides in the spring. The tracks join the highway (159) which is a little narrow as it crosses a swamp. This is normal Italian highway walking, with the added benefit of lots of fllowers, birds, and wonderful smells.
The road continues into Zapponeta, and the Zapponeta Beach campground makes a good place to stay. We were the only tent in the somewhat rustic campground. We had a little gate that opens on to the Adriatic, with a beautiful view back up to the Gargano.
