Bari to Durres to Thessaloniki

33. Kryeuz to Peqin

We walked east along the highway toward an interchange, and then followed the road up the hill. After a short steep walk up the hill, we joined the tracks from our guidebook. . For the first two or three kilometers the tracks were overgrown with raspberry and wild rose bushes. If you would like to avoid this stretch, you could walk up the hill on the road from Harizaj, or even further. Gradually the path widened, leading in one spot to a cliff. We walked along the ridge, saddle to saddle to saddle, with beautiful views in all directions. We walked through two hamlets, with some interesting dogs, and a very friendly goat. At one point the tracks said to go around a house to the right, but there was a massive drop off on the right hand side. Its easier to go around to the left. The climb after 23 on the map in the book is especially rigorous for the end of the day. Toward the end of the day, while following the river, there is the option of staying on the road going down to the railway and walking along the railway. We got picked up by a friendly Italian-speaking man who brought us to a house he owns.
